Turkish Kilim with
Modern Motifs
Turkish kilims
incorporate many traditional symbols. Some traditional motifs
are similar to those found at the 7000 BC prehistoric mound of
Catal Huyuk, testifying to the very ancient traditions of
flat-woven floor coverings in Anatolia. These symbols, passed
down over generations, are meant to bring love, prosperity,
fertility, beauty, and strength in the home of the weaver. The
patterns and color schemes of rugs and kilims were dictated by
local traditions and by the availability of fibers and dyes.
Traditional patterns were created by the weaver and were handed
down from mother to daughter.

| Each artist demonstrated
her personality in the way she combined motifs and colors to
illustrate the events and emotions of her daily life. Therefore, the
older, traditionally woven pieces are becoming more valuable as they
become increasingly more difficult to find. Our Oriental Rug Gallery,
located in Houston, Texas, offers designers and retail clients a large
selection of antique, semi-antique, and new Persian, Indian, Turkish
and European rugs and kilims. In our gallery, you will be able to find
a collection of 19th to early 20th century pieces carefully selected
for their suitability to the European and American design aesthetic
and decorative taste. We also offer oriental rug cleaning,
conservation, restoration, and valuation services. Please email us at
sales@arturc.com with details, if you need more information. This new
Turkish kilim colored with vegetable dyes is 100 % wool. Measures 4'
5" x 5' 6". Because each piece is handmade the measurements may vary
slightly from side to side. |
